Blackjack Table Manners

If you never played blackjack or you only played the game online you should know that is a bit different and can be also a bit intimidating to stand with all those experienced players at the same table. Blackjack is a very social game and it's very likely that some conversation and camaraderie might develop. So you can avoid some unpleasant scenarios and even scolding from dealers you should know the proper etiquette at a blackjack table.

Before you sit at a blackjack table where other gamblers play, it is always polite to ask if you can join

You can transform your chips or you can buy some from the dealer or from the cashier, before you go to the table. If you choose to buy from the dealer find yourself an open seat at a table and after the current round ends, ask the dealer if you can buy in. Than place your cash beyond the area you place bets and the dealer will take the money, spread it out for the cameras, and than will give you an assortment of chips that matches the amount.

To place a bet, place your chips in a neat stack in the center of your betting circle, with the largest denomination at the bottom of the stack

In some casinos the dealer will shuffle the cards, and then ask a player to cut them. If you're that player, just take the plastic card, and stick it somewhere in the middle of the deck. After you cut the deck, the dealer 'burns' the top card taken from the deck after its cut.

Don't touch your bet once the cards are dealt.

In a face-up game you are not allowed to touch your cards. In a face down game, use only one hand to touch your cards. Be careful not to bend them and be sure to keep them over the table. This rules were given by casinos in order to prevent cheating.

Use clear, unambiguous hand signals, not words

If your hand wins or lose it's always considered the sporty thing to do to tip the dealers. For doing so you need to place a bet for him on the edge of your betting circle closest to him. Also you can just drop him a chip and simply say 'for the dealer'.

It's fine to have a strategy card close at hand as you play, but try not to look at it on every single play, especially if you might be slowing the game down (annoying the other players).

Let the dealer know when there has been an oversight or error of some sort. For example, don't let him/her pass you by if you'd wanted a card. Try also to do your own mental totaling of your hand - dealers are humans so they can sometimes make mistakes with the various additions.
